Eye Tracking Movie

Hack Webcam (4)

Reconnect lens and PCB. You finished it!

Connect your webcam to your computer and run your webcam software.

(You need to turn on infrared LEDs.)

Hack Webcam (3)

Rotate the PCB board board and separate the lens from PCB board.

You will see a square lens like object. If you see closely, you may realized that it shins reddish.

I guess it is a infrared filter so that take it out with a needle.

Also take out all the LEDs by using solder iron and replace them with infrared LEDs!

Hack Webcam (2)

First, take out all the plastic cover. Do not break any wires or components.

Attach it to glasses, since I am going to use it for eye tracking.

I think you need to connect the webcam to a computer and run a webcam software while you are attaching it to the glasses otherwise the location of the lens of the webcam will not be appropriate.

You can glue only the tip of plastic cover around the lens otherwise you can not rotate it and you will not be able to adjust its focus distance!

Hack Webcam

In order to get a cheap and small infrared camera, I hacked a regular Webcam.

You can get the same Webcam from Amazon.com or ebay by less than $5.

This Webcam is really nice since the CCD can capture infrared light good at least good enough for our purpose.

Also This Webcam has six built in LEDs.

It is interesting idea to hack a mouse to replace red LED to infrared LED.

E.A.T Narrative Project

E.A.T Narrative Project

E.A.T (Experiment of Art and Technology)Narrative Project is an artistic project which experiments transformations of narrative in artist media through by technologies.

Technologies had great influences on structures of narrative in artistic media. Contemporary films, animations music video, TV and etc were aftermaths of the transformation caused by technologies. Those media do not have a traditional linear narrative but have more complex narratives. For example, many animations are multi-ending and current fine art videos and musics tend to chose open-ending which is depending on interpretation of a player or interaction of audience. My research explores transformations of narrative interdisciplinary by crossing art and science.
